After that, immediately, problems began: the young state was unable to cope with the deteriorating economic situation, and as a result, the hard-won independence began to be associated with evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In 1994, Alexander Lukashenka won the presidential election in Belarus. He obtained high public support, among others, thanks to the promise of a return to the good old Soviet times. He has not resigned his post to date, exercising an increasingly authoritarian regime over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the last elections, in autumn 2020, Belarus was swept by a wave of demonstrations against the renewed victory of Alexander Lukashenka. It became clear that Belarusian society expects changes, that it wants to put an end to over 25 years of rule by the same person.
